Ah, Guatemala. Such a natural paradise of eternal spring, yet so victimized by imperialism. So rich in nature yet so depleted by centuries of exploitation. After the gold, lumber, bananas and coffee were exported for little gain to the populace, what remains is now the modern hope for an ecotourism renaissance. Those who walk lightly on the damaged earth are welcome to relax in the healing paradise.
Ah, Guatemala. Such a rich and complex and colorful culture yet so many have been compelled to wear polyester and sneak across borders. Millions still speak the old languages yet historians lie about how the culture died over a thousand years ago. The old culture thrives, mostly just good natured friendly people, intermingled with catholicism, evangelism, demons.

The dearth of shipping ports provided some protection for this country of the Quetzal, so, unlike the rest of the Americas, an indigenous culture is still very alive with millions of people who speak the old languages and know as little Spanish as the foreign visitors. The rough mountains provided some protection when they repeatedly and pridefully rebelled against the imperialists.
